From a sports academy to a transformative educational model for Puerto Rico

Arecibo Bilingual Academy (ABA) has its roots in a project born from strength, discipline, and passion: Arecibo Baseball Academy, an institution that for years dedicated itself to developing athletic talent in young people from the northern region. The academy not only trained athletes; it fostered leaders, opened doors, and created real opportunities for dozens of students who earned scholarships, traveled to the United States, and proudly represented Puerto Rico in high-level sporting events.

That success—seeing local youth reach universities and teams abroad—became evidence that Arecibo had the talent, determination, and dreams big enough to transcend borders. The mission of the sports academy began to expand: it was no longer just about training athletes, but about developing human beings capable of succeeding in any arena.

With that vision as its foundation, the transformation was born.

The community, educational leaders, and families recognized that the academy's impact could grow even more by integrating sports with a rigorous, bilingual, and future-oriented academic curriculum. It was time to evolve toward a model that combined the best of athletic training—discipline, resilience, effort, and teamwork—with the best of modern STEAM education—innovation, technology, entrepreneurship, and social-emotional support.

Thus, Arecibo Baseball Academy was transformed into Arecibo Bilingual Academy (ABA), a Public Alliance School designed to serve the student in their three essential dimensions: body, soul, and mind.

This transition did not erase the sporting identity. On the contrary, it strengthened it. Programs such as the Athletic Development Program (ADP) and the Sports & Business Innovation Team (SBIT) were born precisely from that legacy: a model where sport, statistics, health, innovation, and youth leadership are integrated into the academic schedule to train student-athletes-inventors-entrepreneurs.

ABA continues to grow with a clear commitment: to develop well-rounded, bilingual, healthy, creative students capable of transforming their community and their country.
